Part 4: Organize Your ePortfolio

Step 1: Set the Landing Page for Your ePortfolio Site

Once all your pages are created, you need to organize them into an interlinked ePortfolio site. Begin by setting the ‘Home’ page to be the landing page for your site.

  1. Go to the dashboard for your ePortfolio site.
  1. In the menu on the left, go to ‘Settings’ and select ‘Reading’.
  1. On the ‘Reading Settings’ page, click the radio button next to ‘A static page’ (i.e. the main landing page) and select ‘Home’ from the menu. Go to the bottom of the page and click ‘Save Changes’.

Step 2: Create a Menu

To allow for easy navigation between your ePortfolio pages, you now need to create a menu for your site.

  1. Go to the dashboard for your ePortfolio site.
  1. In the menu on the left, hover over ‘Appearance’ and select ‘Menus’.
  1. On the ‘Menus’ page, put ‘Main Menu’ as your menu name and click ‘Create Menu’.
  1. On the same page,
    1. go to the ‘Pages’ section.
    2. Click the ‘View All’ tab, and
    3. select ‘Home’ and ‘Philosophy 1002 ePortfolio’ (the two pages that will constitute your main menu).
    4. Click ‘Add to Menu’, and
    5. the two pages will now appear under ‘Menu structure’.
  1. Scroll down the page and until you see the ‘Menu settings’ Next to ‘Display location’, select ‘Primary Menu’, and click ‘Save Menu’.
  1. You can now preview the site if you wish. To do that, go to ‘Your-Name Portfolio’ at the top of the page and click ‘Visit Site’. We recommend you view the page in a new browser tab or window so that you can easily return to the ePortfolio dashboard by simply closing the preview tab.

Step 3: Link to Your Artifacts

The last step in organizing your ePortfolio is creating links between your ‘Philosophy 1002 ePortfolio’ page and your artifact and conclusion pages. This section outlines a simple way to do it; note, however, that other options exist.

  1. Go to the dashboard for your ePortfolio site.
  1. In the menu on the left, go to ‘Pages’ and select ‘All Pages’.
  1. Select ‘Philosophy 1002 ePortfolio’ from the list. You will now be taken to the editing page.
  2. On the page, make a bulleted list of the artifacts you are going to include in your Philosophy 1002 ePortfolio. NOTE: The list in the image below is very simple – you should include as much information about each artifact as you consider necessary.
  1. Once your list is created, you have to hyperlink each item on the list to the corresponding ePortfolio page you created earlier. The process is outlined below.
    • Highlight text for Artifact 1.
    • In the menu that appears, select the ‘Link’ icon.
    • A search box will pop up.
    • Type ‘artifact’ in the search box and a list of your artifact pages will appear. Click on the page for Artifact 1 and a link will be created.
  1. Repeat the process for every artifact on your list and for the conclusion. When you are finished, the text box should look like the one below.
  1. You can now preview your ‘Philosophy 1002 ePortfolio’ page (Preview’ button in the top right corner of the page). Your page should look like the one below.
