Part 1: Make a Plan

If this is your first time creating an ePortfolio site, we recommend you follow the steps below.

  • *Create two main pages.
  • **Create one content page for each artifact you plan to include in the ePortfolio for your course.
  • Create a media library – if you wish to include media (images, documents etc.) on your pages.
  • Develop the content of your ePortfolio (this can be done at any point once your pages are created).
  • Make a menu.
  • Link your pages to allow for navigation.
  • Share your ePortfolio with your instructor (and others, if applicable).

The remainder of this guide explains each of these steps in detail. To illustrate the process of creating an ePortfolio for a single course, we will use Philosophy/PHIL 1002 (‘Introduction to Philosophy’) as an example.

*Main Menu Pages

You will first create two main (or top-level) pages.

  • A general ‘Home’ page: This will be the landing page for your ePortfolio site – not only for the Philosophy 1002 ePortfolio, but also for ePortfolios you may potentially create in future courses. The ‘Home’ page should include a general welcome message (e. g., a short introduction to you and/or your collection). This page should not be specific to the Philosophy 1002 course.
  • A ‘Philosophy 1002 ePortfolio’ main page: This page should have an introduction to the collection of artifacts you want to include in the philosophy ePortfolio. This page will also be the ‘navigation centre’ with links to your artifacts.

**Content Pages for Your Artifacts

You will also create one page for each artifact you wish to include in your ePortfolio for Philosophy 1002. Each page will contain the artifact itself, along with any reflections, comments, critiques etc. that your instructor asked you to include.

If you visualize ‘an outline’ for your site, it may look like this:

  • Home page: Welcome to my ePortfolio!
    • Home page for Philosophy 1002 ePortfolio: Introduction to your collection
      • Page 1: Artifact 1 – Title
      • Page 2: Artifact 1 – Title
      • Page 3: Artifact 1 – Title
      • Page 4: Artifact 1 – Title
      • Page 5: Artifact 1 – Title
      • Page 6: Artifact 1 – Title
      • Page 7: Conclusion

Once you have made a plan, you can start building your ePortfolio site.
