Above and Beyond Report

This is my second semester working at the Commons, every step of the way has been a delight and I adore working here. The people here are amazing and I can’t wait to continue working and growing with the continuing months.

This semester I have worked mainly at the Commons Support Desk, with two shifts a week at the DMC and two shifts a week training (then eventually working) as an AT tutor.

I feel that I have gone above and beyond in numerous ways this semester. I had been more active on Bitrix, responding in a timely manner and working well in a professional setting. I have worked many shifts that may not have been convenient to me but I know is helpful to the Commons staff when in a tight bind. I feel that I have shown the Commons staff that I am capable of handling situations independently but that I am not afraid to ask for help when I need it.

Other ways I have gone above and beyond are staying after shifts to help clients. I know that customer service and how I represent the Commons does not end as soon as my shift does. If a client needs help I will continue to help them despite my shift being over. For example, I had a shift that ended at 2 PM, I got a call from the Rotunda around 1:50 with a student who lost her dissertation. I went down there, and did not come back up until the problem was solved around 2:30 PM, successfully locating her dissertation. I know that I could have left and told the others working there to take over, but that would not be professional and I wanted to be there to finish the job I had started.

Another way I have gone above and beyond is by spending hours after work learning programs so that I may be better equipped to help someone if they have a question. I will occasionally come into the Commons and DMC off of my work schedule and learn Adobe Creative Cloud or Microsoft Office so that I can be a better and more knowledgeable worker.

I love my job and plan on continuing to work here until the end of my studies at Memorial. I hope to gain more AT clients next semester by raising student awareness of the AT programs offered here. Thanks for a great semester! See ya in the fall!
