My submission:
I’ve been working at The Commons for 13 months. Before working here, I didn’t have any experience in dealing with clients and their questions in-person. It was a challenge for me to learn how to think on the spot and come up with a solution that is specific to the client’s problem. Not every scenario can be included in the policies and procedures or training manual. So, I had to learn to use what I know and improvise a fix for the not-so-common issues. The steepest learning curve, for me, has been to learn how everything operates and how they are connected. Specifically, how Webtools works and what access it has to Labnet or Webcat accounts. I overcame these challenges by going through the policies and procedures, and making sure I ask someone more experienced than I am, whenever I’m clueless about a problem, so that I can learn and remember how to solve it the next time.
