Above And Beyond Report, Winter 2018

This semester I went above and beyond when I helped a client add Google Drive to his quick access pane on Windows.

The client came to us because his Google Drive account had no quick access link on the left pane of the file explorer on his Windows laptop. He had his other cloud storage accounts (OneDrive, Dropbox) there, but he could not figure out how to get Google Drive there. What was difficult about this, for us, was that his laptop did not have English as a language installed. So I had to look up where things normally should be and which button/link to click in settings. Apart from navigating one step at a time by googling, I also had to ask him what a particular error/prompt message means in English to get a better understanding of what was going on. It took about an hour to finally get Google Drive on the quick access pane, but in the end it worked exactly the way he wanted it to, and he appreciated the patience.

I also fixed one of the giant 3-hole punchers. There were two of those punchers that were broken. I tried to fix both of them, but one of them was missing a small but important piece without which it cannot be fixed. But the other one needed a replacement head. We had one in the stapler cabinet. It took a little bit of work, initially, to figure out how the whole thing comes apart. But in the end the puncher worked as good as new!

This is my third semester working at the Commons and this job has never ceased to be exciting to me. I hope that I can stay positive and enthusiastic and keep going above and beyond my responsibilities in all the semesters ahead.
