Above and Beyond Winter 2018

This semester, I worked a lot of long desk shifts. I had aimed on making myself a better employee who notices when there are problems and tries to find solutions to said problems in order to help other employees. This was also the first semester that I decided to take on an additional task, which was to try and learn how to use the photocopier.

While on my longer shifts, I got all new kinds of questions that I hadn’t had the chance to try and resolve before. I learned the importance of being resourceful and sharing all the tips and tricks you learn on bitrix so that other employees are better able to assist clients. Posting on Bitrix was one of the things I had planned on improving on this semester. I previously shyed away from sharing little technical tips on bitrix because I thought everyone would know these things. But as I spent more time with some of the newer employees, I realized that its better to share anyways because sometimes, people just dont think about it. So I did.

I also love this job because, as I mention every semester, it is very rewarding to help a person out of a jam, and see the smile on thier face when I am able to miraculously locate their ‘most important thesis’ on a computer or magically make their microsoft office suite work.

This semester i went above and beyond by trying to do more than required for clients as well as coworkers. I tried my best to help co-workers with shift swaps as much as i can, if my shift was ending bt I saw that the next person after me was about to be overwhelmed with clients I would stay back a while to make sure everything is smooth running before i leave. If I was walking by the desk off shift and noticed one of the newer employees struggling with a client or with something, I went up to them and asked if they needed any help with anything. I went above and beyond for clients aswell. One client was sitting at his screen looking very frustrated with a long excel sheet while I was doing rounds. We made eye contact and he looked like he wanted to ask for help but didn’t. I decided to go up to him and ask if he needed assistance with anything. He then proceeded to tell me his problem, which was that he had to sort his data based on the items in the first row, which were alpha numeric codes. This was sort of easy yet difficult at the same time. I was easily able to show him how to sort data in a row instead of column (like most people need), but when we sorted the data it would not arrange in the propoer alpha numeric order. I told him to work on some other stuff while i went to the desk and tried to figure out how to do this. It took me about 25 minutes to figure it out, and then I went back to him with a formula we placed in the next column below that helped arrange his data in the correct alphanumeric order. The client was very grateful and it left me feeling very grateful to have a job where i can help someone out of a pickle.
