Teaching Philosophy

Education is a basic human right, and I believe that everyone has the right to an education that will best suit their strengths and push them to better themselves through the procurement of knowledge. Through questioning and curiosity, and through the development of positive and responsible citizenship in their relationships, classrooms and communities I work towards the development of the student as a whole, not as a list of requirements met. My aim is to encourage each child to see that through their hard work, persistence and actions they can change themselves and the world around them. My goal is to have the classroom be a safe place for learning, exploration, questioning and community building. I aim to have every student feel that they are an integral part of their school community, nurturing a sense of self-efficacy as early as I can in their development.

My aim is to provide a balanced approach to teaching all subjects, creating opportunities for multi-modality learning experiences. There is not one way to teach any subject that is the most effective for all students. I encourage play-based learning and exploration of the environment. I also recognize the importance and usefulness of more traditional methods of instruction when it comes to setting the foundation of learning new skills. I use a combination of both approaches in my instruction.
