Above and Beyond Winter 2018

This semester, I went above and beyond in many tasks, while working on Saturdays, I took initiative to keep the workplace as tidy as possible. I tried to make sure during each shift I work on improving my skills, either it being communication, programming or designing skills.

I wanted to design a few things, and thanks to the Makerspace which helped me develop my ideas into reality. From designing a miniature car to a few cricut sticker designs. Testing the machine to its limit by creating complex designs and learning how to use the 3D printers.  However, I wasn’t able to continue my training this semester, but I will work on this in the summer semester.

I went above and beyond during one of my Saturday shifts;

Shift Report Desk 10:00 – 4:00 pm

I was covering for Raahyma Ahmad  from 10:00-1:00 pm.

It was a steady shift, assisted clients in printing, money related issues as well as a few labnet issues, and answered general questions.
Around 1:00 pm it git super busy with a client who needed help with her MS word document, I tried to explain as best I could on the phone. (We talked for almost 1 hour. ) She needed help in her research paper, and table of contents but she had lost her document. I told her if its possible to pass by the commons. She came around 3:00 and then we worked on retrieving and printing out her document. She is an alumni, and her account was not reachable. So I created a guest account for her, and showed her how to add money via the campus card boxes. At the end of the shift she left happily with her document and research paper formatted.

Details:
Client Name: Florence Samson
Alumni username: f57gs
guest account username: fs03645

*she has added $5 into her guest account for printing.

Apart from that nothing major to report.

This shift tested me to my limits as I handled clients in the library as well as the client on the phone. 🙂 This was a good experience and showed me that I can multi task and handle multiple clients if need be.

Overall, this semester has been adventurous for me. It became difficult to juggle between classes and work and falling ill during the semester.  However, I made sure to stay on track of everything, and Aaron was a great help in giving me extra time for my challenges and being patient with me. 🙂

The commons is and always will be a place for learning and improving one self as well as learning new things everyday.
