As we wrap up mid-semester feedback and hurtle toward final feedback meetings, have a read through these Tips for Handling Criticism. Do you find it difficult to take criticism? Before working at The Commons, had you ever experienced “performance reviews” at other workplaces? What strategies work for you when receiving criticism/feedback?
- If the criticism is constructive I don’t mind, example from a coworker or someone who has more knowledge on the particular task I am working on or someone who has more experience in the particular issue. If someone is criticizing you for something they have no idea about, or they are just trying to annoy you. You shouldn’t take these criticisms to seriously. I have experienced performance reviews once while working at staples during my training there, and here at the commons.
My strategy is to pay attention to who the criticism is coming from and if it makes sense. I try to keep a cool mind if it is coming from someone who is just criticizing for their entertainment.
Think about the reason why someone criticized you, and try to understand their point of view and make sure not to repeat the mistake or avoid it if possible.
